Just a massive simple cloud that caught my attention.

I was struck with the sheer largesse of the cloud as it spread across the Santa Clarita Valley. Stopped at signal, I got this.

Looking up the canyon towards my horse's stables.

Down the canyon towards Santa Clarita and from where I'd come.

A last pic towards the stables. Now on to grain my guy.

Advertise | AdChoices

Driving back from work in Ventura, I cross the 5 Freeway and the Santa Clarita Valley sprawls out before me. I had to make a quick stop at the grocery store and when I came out, I was struck with this HUGE cloud that was spreading across the valley and up the canyon. It was HUGE, and the colors were starting to change.

Shot the first from my car as I was stopped at a signal, waiting to turn on to the canyon road that takes me past my horse's stables and on home.

The second was taken from the road I take to access the stables. It was looking up the trail towards the stables and on up the canyon. The third was in the opposite direction back towards Santa Clarita and the grocery store where I'd been.

The last one was up the canyon again. The colors were just getting so pink.

Then on to my boy's to give him his grain and lots of love for the night. He loves it when his mom puts on his blanket and tucks him in for the night.

It was just so BIG! It was much more impressive than what the photo conveys. Just thought you'd enjoy the sheer size of this guy. Shot from "down below," meaning not up in the mountains where I live.

Yes, it just spread out over the area and was there when it got dark.

Maybe that was it - it was just so massive, just hanging there over practically the whole valley.

Fantastic! I love seeing the progression of the clouds at sunset and you were able to capture that! Nicely done!

BTW, if you haven't you should do a series on your horse sometime...

Shooting back towards the actual sunset, so it backlights the hills. It's a great place to ride, also.

Little trick - I keep it with me at all times. If I'm home, it's accessible. If I'm going to/from work, I carry a little sack - like one of those gift bags you'd put a smaller present in - with all my reminder notes I might make at home or in the car, bills to pay, etc., and of course, the camera. So, it's with me in the car, and goes into the office, as well.

I drive over an hour to work and then again back home, stopping by the horse's both times, so I need to keep things accessible to me.

He's a registered Morgan. Before that I had a part Quarter, part TB saddle horse, and also had TB racehorses. My Morgan, though - wow, I would get another in a heartbeat. How about yours?

Pasa Fino, Quarb, Quarter Horse Race Horse, 2 Arbs and had a Shetland years ago. Loved them all. alot of people are getting Morgans around here now. TB are too hot for me. I worked with them and I'm not good enough of a horse handler to handle them. Our Quarter horse had a speed index and she was hard to handle but she was my daughter barrel horse. I do really miss them. Spring is the worst when I want to get on and go for a ride to see the signs of spring.

I only got to ride one of my racehorses once - had to sneak on the track, and only did a light canter.

The 1/2 Qtr/TB was a backyard bred guy and was really low key.

Now the Morgan - spirit, but with intelligence!

While I may not get another horse after my Morgan goes (he's 23), I would love to have a mineature.

I still have my tack and I go back and forth about selling it because I keep thinking some day I may have another horse. I doubt it but the thought is always there. I have read a lot on the Morgans when I was younger. They sure are a pretty horse. A good worker too.

Thanks much! I am a So Cal native, and while I have visited many parts of the country that are truly beautiful, I just couldn't see myself landing anywhere else but here.

The wind will be flying through my horses mane - with any luck, not mine.

I lived in San Diego for a few years courtesy of the USN. I always wanted to settle there. Never quite made it out of Missouri again.

Helped dock the Connie more than a few times!

San Diego was (and is) beautiful. I love SoCal. I know I'd get a heck of lot more riding done myself if I lived there. (My horse is of the motored variety.)

Thanks much, MoonCrow. I was just blown away by the sheer massiveness of this one. It's hard to get a feel for just how big that area is, looking away from Santa Clarita and up the canyon. That was one big cloud!

Thanks for checking it out.

Honestly, my Boomerang is in the works. I need to get a more recent photo of him. It's hard right now with the winter coat and weather. He wants to look his most charming! I'll even post a photo that will absolutely AMAZE.

Teaser: I still have it and it cost me $10,000!

Thanks for the cloud comment. The hardest part was staying with traffic for that first shot!
